GVSU Sweeps Ferris State in GLIAC Softball Doubleheader

Grand Valley State's softball team swept Ferris State in a GLIAc doubleheader on Saturday. The Lakers won game one, 8-0 in six innings and came back to win game two, 5-2. GVSU will play at Lake Superior State on Sunday, beginning at noon.

Jennifer Mackson pitched all six innings for the Lakers in game one, allowing just four hits in her 13th shutout of the season. Mackson fanned five batters in the game.

GVSU tallied four runs in the top of the third inning and added two runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to record the 8-0 win. Senior 1B Sara Vroegindewey led the Lakers, going 3-for-4 with four RBI. Senior 3B Lindsay Crawford went 2-for-4 with two RBI. GVSU pounded out 10 hits in the game.

Ferris State took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning in game two, but GVSU scored five unanswered runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to seal the 5-2 victory.

Kristin Jenner started game two for the Lakers, pitching 2.1 innings. Jenner allowed two hits, three walks, and two earned runs, while striking out four. Mackson came in to throw the final 4.2 innings, allowing four hits, recording two strikeouts. Mackson improves to 21-2 on the season.

Junior SS Sarah Paape went 3-for-4, while Mackson went 2-for-2 at the plate. Vroegindewey also added two hits for GVSU.
