Lakers Split Doubleheader At Saginaw Valley State

Grand Valley State split a GLIAC doubleheader Wednesday at Saginaw Valley State Wednesday afternoon. GVSU won the opener by a 9-0 score, but dropped the nightcap, 2-0. GVSU is now 27-5 overall and 9-1 in GLIAC action.

The Lakers broke game one open in the top of the fourth with three runs. GVSU then put four on the board in the sixth and two more in the seventh to claim a 9-0 win. 3B Lindsay Crawford was 2-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. 1B Sara Vroegindewey and 2B Jennifer Goldschmeding each collected two hits and scored three runs. All-American Jennifer Mackson picked up her 17th win of the season with the six-hit shutout.

Game two was scoreless until SVSU struck for single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. The Cardinals pounded out 11 hits, while GVSU managed just three hits. Kristin Jenner was tagged with her second loss of the year, yielding seven hits and one run in 4.1 innings of work.

Grand Valley State will host Gannon in a GLIAC doubleheader on Saturday, April 17 at 1:00 p.m. and Mercyhurst on Sunday, April 18 at 1:00 p.m.
