GVSU Falls 4-1 to Lewis University

Grand Valley State dropped its second game of the day at the GLIAC vs. GLVC Tournament in Peoria, Ill. on Saturday as they fell to Lewis University (16-9) 4-1. The Lakers fall to 14-4 overall and will play Southern Illinois-Edwardsville at 6:00 p.m. CST on Saturday.

The Flyers struck first scoring one run in the top of the third inning, but GVSU came back and added a run of their own in the bottom of the third to tie the game 1-1. Sophomore RF Miranda Titler started off the inning reaching base on a fielding error by the first baseman and advanced to third as sophomore CF Tara Marsh reached on an error by the third baseman. Senior 2B Jennifer Goldschmeding drove in the run as she recorded a two-out single to center field.

Lewis came back, however, and added another run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to seal the 4-1 victory. The two teams split a doubleheader earlier in the season, with the Flyers winning game one 3-2 and the Lakers taking game two 2-1.

Kristin Jenner picked up her first loss of the season, falling to 4-1. Jenner allowed seven hits, one earned run, and tallied three strikeouts.

GVSU recorded six hits and was led by Goldschmeding who went 2-for-3 with the lone Laker RBI.
