Baseball Splits With Wisconsin-Parkside

St. Louis, Mo. - Grand Valley State split a non-league doubleheader with Wisconsin-Parkside, winning game one 4-3, but dropping the finale 3-2. GVSU finished its spring trip with a 5-5 mark overall and a 4-2 ledger versus the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

In game one, The Lakers scored three in the bottom of the first and a game-winner in the bottom of the fifth to claim a 4-3 win. Jon Micoff picked up his second win of the year with five inning of work. Joe Finnerty picked up another save with a scoreless seventh inning. RF Joe Mertes tallied a pair of hits and drove in two runs.

In game two, the Lakers fell behind 3-0 after three innings of play, but pulled to within 3-2 after OF Nick Sandy drilled a two-run HR in the bottom of the fourth. GVSU was unable to plate another run, despite threatening on a couple of occasions. The Lakers outhit Parkside 5-4.

Grand Valle State concluded its spring ledger with a 5-5 mark. The Lakers will hit the road again with four games in West Virginia (March 13-14).
