Grand Valley State won a defensive battle, 1-0, against Gannon University in Ft. Myers, Fla. Saturday morning. There were only six hits and one run recorded between the two pitchers, who combined for 21 strikeouts.

Senior ace Jen Mackson tallied nine strikeouts, while recording a one-hitter. Jen had a perfect game with two outs in the ninth inning before she allowed the lone Gannon hit.

Grand Valley scored their only run in the third inning. Sophomore CF Tara Marsh started the inning with a walk and advanced to second base when junior SS Sarah Paape reached first on a one out error by the shortstop. Senior 1B Sara Vroegindewey singled through the right side, scoring Marsh.

Marsh was 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base, while Paape was 2-for-4. Vrogindewey went 1-for-2 in the game with a single and a walk.
