Grand Valley State led in nearly every statistical category except for made free throws and the final score and both categories favored Indianapolis in the Greyhounds 81-78 non-conference win Thursday night. GVSU falls to 8-2 overall, while Indianapolis improves to 7-4 overall and 6-0 at home.
GVSU built a 43-37 halftime lead and led by as many as 10 points midway through the second half. However, Indy went on a 10-0 run and took its first lead with just over four minutes left in the game. GVSU and UI traded buckets before the Greyhounds hit their free throws in the closing minutes to pull out the win.
Senior Marcus Wallace led GVSU with 22 points and seven rebounds, while Mike Hall chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds. Callistus Eziukwu added 12 points and six rebounds before fouling out. Jerry Wallace hit three triples for nine points and Jeff Grauzer tallied eight points. GVSU hit 33-of-60 shots (55.0) from the floor and outrebounded Indy 36-35. However, Indianapolis hit 24-of-32 free throws and GVSU attempted just eight, hitting five.
Grand Valley State will host Goshen College Saturday (Jan. 1) at 3 p.m.
