Lakers Upend 10th-Ranked Findlay 69-65

Allendale, Mich. - Marcus Wallace scored a game-high 19 points and freshman center Callistus Eziukwu added 14 points and 16 rebounds as Grand Valley State captured a 69-65 victory over 10th-ranked Findlay Saturday night. Grand Valley State improves to 7-1 overall, while Findlay falls to 7-2.

Findlay led 36-34 at the half and the second half was close throughout the first 15 minutes as neither team led by more than five points. A layup by Marcus Wallace, and jumpers by Mike Hall and Jason Jamerson gave GVSU its largest lead (63-55) of the game at the 4:27 mark. Findlay crawled back and pulled to within two (63-61) on a three-pointer by Dorian Bass. However, junior guard Courtney James hit a big bucket with the shot clock running down to give the Lakers a 65-61 lead. GVSU hit 4-of-6 free throws down the stretch to close out the win.

In addition to Wallace (19) and Eziukwu (14), Mike Hall and Jerry Wallace chipped in nine points each, while Jason Jamerson added eight points. GVSU outrebounded Findlay by a 39-27 margin. GVSU held Findlay to just 65 points, marking the eighth straight game the Lakers have held their opponent to 65 points or less. GVSU shot just 48 percent (24-50) from the floor, but held Findlay to just 40.4 percent (23-57) from the field.

Grand Valley State will host Quincy University Tuesday (Dec. 21) at 7 p.m.
