Grand Valley State head coach Ric Wesley led his Lakers to a nice home debut in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena Tuesday evening with a 93-48 victory over Rochester College. En route to the 45 point win, GVSU shot a school-record 70.9 percent from the field (38-54). Grand Valley State improved to 2-1 with the win.
GVSU jumped out to 43-21 halftime lead behind a balanced scoring attack in which nine players scored. The Lakers opened the second half by making their first 10 shots from the floor and did not miss a shot until 11 minutes had passed. The Lakers outrebounded Rochester by a 41-16 and limited the Warriors to 34.5 percent from the floor.
All 13 Lakers that played reached the scoring column, led by freshman Jason Jamerson's game-high 16 points. Marcus Wallace scored 13 points, all in the second half, and pulled down five boards. Callistus Eziukwu turned in a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Eziukwu also tallied six blocked shots. Sophomore guard Brian Arnold hit three treys en route to nine points. The Lakers dished out 25 assists and notched 12 steals.
Grand Valley State will open league action next Thursday with a home tilt versus Ashland.
