Lakers Sweep Saginaw Valley, 3-0, Saturday

#11 Grand Valley State tallied a 3-0 (30-20, 30-26, 30-24) sweep over GLIAC opponent Saginaw Valley State Saturday. The Lakers improve to 15-3 overall and remain undefeated in GLIAC action with a 7-0 record.

GVSU won game one, 30-20, behind a team .429 attack percentage. The Lakers then tallied a 30-26 game two win, followed by a 30-24 victory in game three to complete the sweep. Grand Valley recorded a .289 team attack percentage, while Saginaw Valley State hit just .069.

Junior Tracy Kirk posted a match-high 12 kills and a .346 attack percentage, while junior Lauren Hanson added seven kills, a .417 hitting percentage, and two assisted blocks. Redshirt freshman Alyson Riley led the Lakers with 19 digs, while sophomore Megan Helsen added 15 digs and four service aces. Junior Tina Tromblay posted eight kills, eight digs, and two assisted blocks. Junior Michele Ehrlich recorded 26 assists and senior Leah Kunz added 20.

The Lakers have won 11 straight matches and have won 33 out of their last 37 games.

Grand Valley State will play three GLIAC contests on the road next week, beginning with a matchup at archrival Ferris State on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 7:00 p.m. GVSU will then play at Mercyhurst on Oct. 8 at 7:00 p.m. and at Gannon on Oct. 9 at 4:00 p.m.
