Lakers Drop 83-74 GLIAC Tilt To #19 Findlay

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State fought back from an early 16 point deficit to take a five point lead midway through the second half, but #19Findlay outscored the Lakers 11-3 in the closing two minutes to notch an 83-74 GLIAC road victory. GVSU falls to 11-7 overall and 3-6 in GLIAC action.

Findlay (15-5, 7-3) shot the lights out in the opening 12 minutes of the game, hitting seven-of-ten three pointers en route to a 34-18 lead. However, the Lakers cut down the Findlay lead and trailed by just six (41-35) at the half. GVSU went on a 10-4 run to open the second half to tie the game (45-45) and led 58-53 with 11:56 remaining the in the game. The contest remained close with neither team leading by more than four points until a dunk by Chris Commons with 1:15 left to give the Oilers a 77-71 lead.

Marcus Wallace led four Lakers in double figures with 21 points. Courtney James added 15 points and four assists, while Eric Chess chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds and Mike Hall added 12 points. Findlay shot 55.6 percent from the field, while GVSU converted 45.8 percent. GVSU hit nine-of-22 three-pointers and 21-of-24 free throws.

Grand Valley State will host Northwood Saturday at 8 p.m. at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. The 2003 NCAA DII National Champion football team will be honored at halftime of the men's game.
