#11 Grand Valley State dropped a 3-2 decision to #24 Wheeling Jesuit in their first game of the Days Inn Classic. The Lakers fell 25-30, 30-27, 30-16, 27-30, 10-15. GVSU will play Wisconsin-Parkside at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
The Lakers fell 25-30 in game one, but came back to win the next two games, 30-27 and 30-16. Wheeling Jesuit tied it up by winning game four, 30-27 and held on for the 15-10 victory in game five.
Senior Nicole Bayle tallied 51 assists, 12 digs, and seven kills. Freshman Megan Helsen led the team with 19 kills, 18 digs, and 47 total attacks. Sabrina Bird added 12 kills, 30 total attacks, and three service aces. Tracy Kirk recorded 10 kills, 35 total attacks, and six digs.
Lauren Hanson tallied 12 kills, 25 total attacks, and three assisted blocks. Stephanie Maciasz had five blocks, three digs, and six kills, while Molly Young added a team-high 23 digs.
The Lakers are now 3-2 on the season.
