In a battle between the only remaining undefeated teams in the GLIAC, Grand Valley State fell to Northern Michigan, 3-0 (26-30, 26-30, 17-30). The Lakers are now 12-5 overall and 4-1 in the GLIAC, while NMU improves to 10-0 overall and 5-0 in conference play.
GVSU was led by Nicole Bayle who tallied 30 assists and six digs. Sabrina Bird and Tracy Kirk each recorded three blocks, while Molly Young recorded a team-high 13 digs. Melissa Reneski added nine digs and Katie Horvath tallied eight.
The Wildcats held the Lakers to a .167 attack percentage on the match. Grand Valley's last GLIAC loss came to Ferris State on Oct. 8, 2002, where the Lakers fell, 3-2, in Big Rapids. Today's loss snapped a 14 consecutive GLIAC win streak for the Lakers.
Grand Valley will be on the road next weekend for two more GLIAC matches. On Friday, Oct. 3, the Lakers will travel to Northwood for a 7:00 p.m. match and on Saturday, Oct. 4, GVSU will face Saginaw Valley at 4:00 p.m.
