Ashland, Ohio - #18 Grand Valley State opened GLIAC play with a 3-1 (30-22, 30-25, 26-30, 30-23) victory over Ashland Friday (Sept. 19) night. GVSU (9-4, 1-0) will face Findlay in a key early season match-up Saturday afternoon.

Senior Sabrina Bird led the Lakers with 17 kills and a .615 attack percentage. Senior settter Nicole Bayle notched 16 kills, 45 assists and a .565 attack percentage. Melissa Reneski chipped in 12 kills, while Stephanie Maciasz and Tracy Kirk each tallied 11 kills. GVSU hit .342 as a team and recorded 11 service aces. Reneski led the defensive effort with 13 digs. The Lakers also notched 17 block assists and one block solo.
