Grand Valley State picked up a key 9-0 win over Northwood Wednesday in a GLIAC tilt at the GVSU Baseball Field. Grand Valley State, ranked fourth in the latest NCAA DII North Central Regional poll, improved to 30-11-1 overall and 16-6-1 in GLIAC play. Game two was cancelled due to rain.
RHP Phil Mixter notched his team-high eighth win of the year, yielding just two hits and striking out nine in six innings of work. Mixter's eight wins is second on the GVSU single-season list. David Olson pitched a scoreless seventh. After a scoreless first, GVSU struck for two runs in the second and three more in the third. The Lakers added a single run in the fourth and iced the game with three-spot in the sixth. Elijah Beckwith led the way, going 3-4 with three RBI. 2B Jeremy Lundberg was 1-2 with two RBI, while LF Kevin Boyd was 2-4 with two RBI. CF Mike McCallister was 2-3 and two runs scored. GVSU pounded out 12 hits on the day.
Grand Valley State will host Wayne State in a key four-game GLIAC series Saturday (May 3) at 1 p.m. at the GVSU Baseball Field.
