Grand Valley State remained perfect in conference action with two wins over Lake Superior State on Tuesday at Laker Field. GVSU took game one 8-0 in five innings behind Jennifer Mackson's 10th shutout of the season and held on to win game two 5-4. Sara Vroegindewey was 5-for-6 and hit for the cycle on the day. Grand Valley is now 33-3 on the season and 8-0 in the GLIAC.
Game one was highlighted by a one-hit pitching performance by Mackson who improves to 18-1 this year. Tara Marsh was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored, while Vroegindewey was 2-for-2 with a triple and 2 RBI. Bobbi Conner also connected on two hits.
The Lakers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in game two but LSSU battled back with four runs in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run on second with one out. Jennifer Goldschmeding came into to shut the door and earn her first save of her career. Vroegindewey tallied three hits, including a home run and a double, with two RBI. Megan Smith posted two hits in the win, and Stacie DelChiaro hit a two-run home run. Kristin Jenner earned the win and improved to 11-1.
Grand Valley will host Saginaw Valley State on Wednesday at 3:30 pm in a GLIAC twinbill.
