#6 Grand Valley State extended its school-record winning streak to 27 games with a GLIAC doubleheader sweep over Northwood University Thursday. GVSU won game one 2-1 and game two 4-0. GVSU limited Northwood to just five hits and one run on the day.
Jen Mackson struck out 14 in game one as she improved to 15-0 on the year. Mackson allowed one run and one hit in the outing. GVSU scored two in the bottom of the fourth with a Bobbi Conner double. Conner and Sara Vroegindewey each collected two hits in the game. The Lakers put four runs across the plate in the top of the fourth of game two with just one hit. Conner drove home two runs with a single to provide enough run support for freshman pitcher Kristin Jenner. Jenner recorded the shutout, yielding just five hits and striking out six. Kerri Jonas was 2-2 with a run scored.
Grand Valley State will compete in the GLIAC-GLVC Tournament April 12-13 in Battle Creek. The Lakers will open versus Northern Kentucky at 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by a 3 p.m. contest vs. Bellarmine. GVSU will play SIU-Edwardsville (11), UMSL (1) and Lewis (5) on Sunday.
