GVSU Notches Key 76-62 GLIAC Win Over SVSU

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State picked up a key 76-62 GLIAC victory Thursday (Feb. 13) night over visiting Saginaw Valley State at the GVSU Arena. GVSU (12-12, 7-9) moves into third place in the GLIAC North Division, just 1 1/2 games back of second place Northern Michigan (12-11, 8-7).

Grand Valley State jumped out to a 34-29 halftime lead and increased its lead to 47-35 on a Jerry Wallace three-pointer at the 15:42 mark of the second stanza. GVSU maintained a double-digit lead for remainder of the game en route to the victory. The Lakers held SVSU to just 31.9 percent shooting from the floor (23-72), including 13.3 percent (2-15) shooting from the three-point line. The Lakers connected on 46.7 percent (28-60) of its shots from the floor.

Senior center Jason Bauer, playing his final game at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena, led the Lakers with 17 points and six rebounds before fouling out with just under four minutes in the game. Freshman guard Courtney James added 15 points and six assists, while freshman forward Eric Voisin chipped in 10 points and nine caroms. Freshman guard Jerry Wallace hit three three-pointers en route to nine points.

Grand Valle State has a bye on Saturday (Feb. 15), and will finish the 2002-03 regular season in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The Lakers will visit Michigan Tech, the number one ranked team in Division II basketball, Thursday (Feb. 20) before heading to Marquette to tangle with the Wildcats of Norther Michigan in a key GLIAC tilt February 22.
