#11 Lakers Earn 70-58 Victory Over Michigan Tech

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State won a hard fought GLIAC matchup over Michigan Tech 70-58 on Saturday in the Fieldhouse Arena. The Lakers, ranked #11 in the WBCA Top 25, led 31-29 at halftime and never led by more than six until two minutes remaining in the game. Michigan Tech cut the lead to one with 3:40 left in the ball game, but GVSU went on a 10-0 run over the next two minutes to seal the victory. Laurie Rehmann posted a season high 27 points and also recorded nine rebounds and six assists as the Lakers improve to 18-3 overall and 9-3 in the GLIAC.

Both teams struggled from the floor in the first half with neiter able to shoot over 40%. Janine Guastella hit a three-pointer with a second remaining in the half to give the Lakers the two point edge entering the break. Rehmann took over in the second period hitting six of seven shots, and scoring 16 points including five straight in the Lakers run down the stretch. GVSU shot 52% in the second period and posted 23 assists on their 28 baskets in the game.

Senior Jennifer Nielsen poured in 14 points and tallied eight assists, while Julie Zeeff scored 13 points.

The Lakers will host Northwood in a GLIAC contest on Thursday (Feb. 6) at 6:00 pm in the GVSU Fieldhouse.
