Lakers Claim 98-47 Victory Over Davenport

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State used a 35-7 run over the final 8:13 of the first half to stake a 58-30 halftime lead en route to a 98-47 victory over Davenport College Friday (Dec. 19) night at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. GVSU improves to 3-5 overall and will return to action on Friday, Jan. 2 at North Dakota.

Davenport jumped out to an early 17-9 lead over GVSU in the opening six minutes, however, Peaches Churchwell hit a three-pointer at the 8:13 mark to give the Lakers a lead (26-23) they would never relinquish. The Lakers outscored Davenport 35-7 to build a 58-30 lead after 30 minutes of action. Erika Ryskamp scored 14 of her game-high 24 points in the opening half and Julia Baseth added 10. The Lakers hit 9-of-18 three-pointers and all seven free throw attempts in the opening stanza.

GVSU dominated the second half, converting 17-of-32 shots (53.1 percent) from the floor and turned the ball over just six times. The Lakers limited Davenport to just 20 percent shooting from the floor in the second half and 17 points.

Ryskamp notched a double-double with 24 points and 10 assists, while Julie Zeeff tallied 19 points and six rebounds and Janine Guastella added 10 points. Jessica Hart chipped in nine points, Diana Voikos eight points and eight rebounds, and Kelly Erskine seven points and five rebounds. GVSU also held a 51-29 rebounding advantage in the game. The Lakers hit a season-high 12 three-pointers and were 10-10 from the charity stripe.
