The Grand Valley State women's basketball team won its home, 74-61, over Aquinas Monday night. The Lakers are now 1-0 overall and will host the Sleep Inn Classic this weekend. GVSU will play Lewis University at 7:00 p.m. on Friday and Hillsdale College at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The Lakers were led by senior center Julie Zeeff who tallied a team-high 24 points, nine rebounds, and seven blocks. Senior guard Cori Jewett recorded 19 points and five steals, while freshman guard Erica Ryskamp added 15 points and four steals. Janine Guastella had 10 points and four assists.

GVSU had a 38-31 halftime lead and outscored the Saints, 36-30 in the second half. Grand Valley shot 50% from the field, while holding Aquinas to just 39%.
