Lakers Fall, 3-2, to Northern Michigan in GLIAC Tournament Title Match

Grand Valley State and Northern Michigan battled for the third time this season as the two teams faced off in the GLIAC Tournament title match Saturday. The matchup proved to be a battle of the two best GLIAC teams, but for the third time this season the Wildcats defeated the Lakers, 3-2 (30-28, 30-19, 28-30, 33-35, 16-14).

GVSU was led by Stephanie Maciasz who tallied 22 kills, 37 total attacks, three assisted blocks, and a team-high .514 attack percentage. Tracy Kirk recorded 17 kills and four assisted blocks, while Sabrina Bird added 13 kills, three service aces and nine assisted blocks. Nicole Bayle recorded 59 assists, 14 digs and three blocks. Molly Young led the Lakers with 25 digs, while Melissa Reneski and Katie Horvath each added 11 digs.

The teams were pretty evenly matched up as the Lakers tallied a .222 hitting percentage and the Wildcats recorded a .244 attack percentage.

Senior Nicole Bayle and sophomore Tracy Kirk were both named to the GLIAC All-Tournament Team for their outstanding play in the three games.
