Lakers Go to Five Games to Defeat Bulldogs

It took five games, but Grand Valley State came up with the 3-2 (30-28, 27-30, 30-24, 24-30, 15-9) win over archrival Ferris State Tuesday night. The Lakers are now 15-5 overall and 7-1 in GLIAC play.

The two teams went back and forth all night as GVSU won games one and three, while FSU kept tying the score by winning games two and four. The Lakers sealed the victory with a 15-9 win in game five.

Stephanie Maciasz recorded a team-high 15 kills, 33 total attacks, a .394 attack percentage and six assisted blocks. Megan Helsen added 13 kills and 16 digs, while Melissa Reneski tallied 13 kills and 17 digs. Tracy Kirk had a career-high nine assisted blocks and Molly Young had a team-high 29 digs. Sabrina Bird had 10 kills and five digs, while Nicole Bayle led the Lakers with 51 assists, 13 digs, and three blocks.

Grand Valley will continue GLIAC play at home as they host Mercyhurst on Friday, Oct. 10 at 7:00 p.m. and Gannon on Saturday, Oct, 11 at 4:00 p.m.
