Grand Valley State's women's tennis team fell in first round action of the GLIAC Tennis Championships. #4 Michigan Tech defeated #5 Grand Valley State, 5-3, Friday at the Midland Community Tennis Center in Midland, Mich.
Marie Cameron fell at #1 singles, 6-0, 6-4 and Nikki Fairchild dropped her match at #2 singles, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2. At #4 singles, Kim VanSprange fell, 6-3, 6-1. Laura Sukup picked up a win at #5 singles, 6-1, 6-0 and Zanobia Syed won, 7-5, 6-2, at #6 singles.
Koopsen and Fairchild teammed up for a 9-7 win at #2 singles. Cameron and Sukup fell, 9-7, at #1 doubles, as did VanSprange and Natalie Pallet at #3 doubles, 9-7.
Grand Valley will face #8 Lake Superior State in the consolation match.
