Grand Valley State lost their first game of the season 58-40 to Hillsdale on Saturday at the GVSU Fieldhouse. The Chargers held GVSU to 38% shooting from the field and forced 24 turnovers in the game. Freshman Alexandra Rivette led the Laker scoring attack with 10 points in the game. GVSU, who is ranked #10 in the WBCA Top 25, falls to 14-1 overall and 5-1 in GLIAC play, while Hillsdale improves to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in conference action.
The Lakers jumped out to an early lead to open the game but neither team led by more than four until the Chargers scored the last seven points of the half to take a 24-19 lead into the break. Hillsdale quickly increased their lead to 9 in the first three minutes of the second half. The Lakers responded with their own run to cut the lead to 37-35 with 11:00 left in the game, but the Chargers outscored GV 21-5 the rest of the way to earn the win.
Rivette, who was the only Laker in double figures, hit 4 of 8 from the field and added three rebounds. Julie Zeeff scored 9 points with 6 rebounds, and Laurie Rehmann added 6 assists and 5 boards.
