Julie Zeeff scored a career high 36 points to help Grand Valley remain perfect as the Lakers defeated Wayne State 70-61 at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. Zeeff made 16 of 23 shots and also pulled down 12 rebounds and blocked six shots. In addition, senior Laurie Rehmann reached a career milestone as she recorded her 1,000th point at GVSU with eight points in the game. The Lakers, who are ranked #10 in the latest WBCA Top 25, improve to 14-0 overall and 5-0 in the GLIAC.
Zeeff started hot as she scored the Lakers first 14 points of the game, and ended up with 26 in the half as GVSU went into the break with a 37-31 lead. Wayne State battled back and took their first lead since the opening minutes with 10 minutes left in the game at 52-50. The Lakers responded with a 17-2 run to clinch the victory.
Rehmann is the 15th player in GVSU's women's basketball history to score 1,000 points in a career. Laurie also chipped in nine assists and seven rebounds on the game. Jen Nielsen also recorded 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Grand Valley will host Hillsdale in another GLIAC matchup on Saturday (Jan. 4) at 6:00 pm.
