#9 Lakers Roll Past Ferris 83-55

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State earned an 83-55 victory over Ferris State on Saturday behind some hot shooting from behind the arc. The Lakers, ranked #9 in the WBCA Top 25, hit on 12 of 18 from three-point land as they cruised to another GLIAC win. GVSU improves to 16-1 on the season and 6-1 in conference play, while Ferris drops to 9-6 and 4-4. Seniors Jennifer Nielsen and Laurie Rehmann tallied 20 and 19 points, respectively, to lead the way for the Lakers.

The two squads battled for the opening seven minutes of the game and were tied at 12 before GVSU went on a 16-2 run to build a 28-14 lead with 6:17 in the first half. The Lakers kept on adding to the lead and were up 39-19 at the break. Ferris never got the lead under 13 in the second half as GV hit eight three-pointers to maintain their advantage. The Laker defense also held the Bulldogs to 36.8% shooting from the field.

Nielsen was 7 of 8 from the field with four coming from downtown, and her only miss with less than a minute left in the game. Jen also added six rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Rehmann hit all four of her shots from behind the line and added eight assists and five rebounds. Cori Jewett and Julie Zeeff both added 13 points, while Diana Voikos tallied 10 rebounds and three steals.

The Lakers next game is at GLIAC North leading Lake Superior State (13-3, 8-1) on Thursday (Jan. 23) at 5:30 pm.
