Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State earned a 79-74 victory over Finlandia at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena on Monday night. The Lakers were led by freshman guard Al Mans who scored 17 points on 5 for 9 shooting from the floor. Grand Valley improves to 2-1 on the season while Finlandia drops to 2-3.

GVSU outscored Finlandia by nine from the free throw line in the first half to take a 43-38 lead into the break. The Lakers then held on for the victory by knocking down 17 of 22 from the line in the final period. Grand Valley finished 27 of 36 on foul shots for the game.

Mans led four players in double-digits. Also hitting the mark were Jason Bauer with 15, Melvin White with 13, and Courtney James who tallied 11.

The Lakers play on Tuesday (Nov. 26) in the Select Bank One Classic at the Van Andel Arena against Aquinas at 6:00 pm.
