Grand Valley State and Findlay battled to a 1-1 tie on Saturday at the GVSU soccer field. The Lakers scored first 21 minutes into the game and went into halftime with a 1-0 lead. Findlay scored their goal just over 10 minutes into the second half. The two teams then held each other scoreless throughout the rest of the game and two overtime periods. Grand Valley, who is ranked #17 in the country, is now 13-2-1 on the year and 6-0-1 in the GLIAC.
The Lakers outshot Findlay 17-5 in the first half as they controlled much of the action in the period. The Oilers responded in the second half and not only scored but leveled the playing field with 12 shots compared to 9 by the Lakers. GVSU generated the best scoring attempts in the overtime periods but could not get a ball into the net.
GVSU goalie Melissa Henson made nine saves on the day while Findlay goalkeeper Erin Finnegan rejected 15 shots by the Lakers.
Grand Valley will face Ashland on Sunday at 1:00 pm in a battle for first place in the conference.
