GVSU Rolls Through Round One Of GLIAC Tournament

Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State defeated Michigan Tech 30-13, 30-22, 30-25 in the first round of the GLIAC Tournament on Thursday in the GVSU Fieldhouse. The Lakers got out the box quick as they hit .500 in game one while holding MTU to a -.107 attack percentage. The win gives head coach Deanne Scanlon 200 wins in her seven years at GVSU as the Lakers improve to 27-2 on the season. The Lakers who are ranked #5 in the country host #15 Northwood on Friday at 7:30 in the GLIAC semifinals.

The Lakers looked very impressive in game one as they opened up the match 15-4 and cruised to a 30-13 victory and GVSU never looked back. Grand Valley recorded 62 kills with a team .393 attack percentage compared to only 21 kills and a .077 hitting percentage by the Huskies.

Senior Traci Skrzypek recorded 11 kills in 13 attempts and led the Lakers with 15 digs. Carly Miller posted 16 kills with a .556 attack percentage. Elisa Joris and Sabrina Bird added nine kills apiece. Nicole Bayle registered 47 assists and 10 digs.

Head Coach Deanne Scanlon now owns a career record of 200-68 in seven years with the Lakers. Scanlon's .746 winning percentage ranks in the top 10 among active Division II coaches.
