Lakers Fall To Ferris In Five Games

Big Rapids, Mich. - Grand Valley State suffered their first GLIAC loss at Ferris State on Tuesday (Oct. 8th) as the Bulldogs pulled out a 3-2 (30-28, 24-30, 26-30, 30-14, 15-5) victory. The Lakers had their 14 match win streak snapped and fell to 16-2 overall and 7-1 in the GLIAC. Ferris State improves to 17-2 and 8-0 in conference action. GVSU is ranked #3 in the latest AVCA Top 25 while FSU entered the rankings this week in the 25th spot.

GVSU lost the first game but rallied by to win the next two games. The Lakers jumped out to a 9-7 lead in game four before the Bulldogs fought back behind a capacity crowd at Ewigleben Arena to roll off 23 of the next 28 points to take the game. Game five started with more of the same as the Bulldogs rattled off the first 7 points and the Lakers could not recover.

Senior Carly Miller led the Lakers with 20 kills and a .308 attack percentage. Chara Fehsenfeld and Traci Skrzypek both recorded 16 digs. Nicole Bayle tallied 42 assists, 10 digs and 7 kills.

GVSU travels to Mercyhurst to continue GLIAC action on Friday (Oct. 12) at 7:00 pm and then will play at Gannon on Saturday.
