#5 Grand Valley State cruised past #19 Findlay 3-0 (30-23, 32-30, 30-21) in GLIAC action on Friday night at the GVSU Fieldhouse. It is the 36th straight home win for the Lakers and 14th consecutive victory this season and improves their record to 15-1 overall and 6-0 in GLIAC action. The Lakers entered the game ranked #2 in the Great Lakes Region behind only #1 Findlay, who before tonight was a perfect 12-0 in regional action.
GVSU came out of the gate on fire connecting on 19 of 31 attack attempts in the first game while recording a .516 hitting percentage. The two teams battled in game two with both earning chances for game points, but the Lakers persevered for the 32-30 win. Grand Valley started quickly again in game three as they jumped out to a quick 12-3 lead and held on for the easy win. For the match the Lakers hit .366 for the match and recorded 10 blocks and over the last five matches GVSU has averaged 11.4 blocks.
Carly Miller led the Lakers with 15 kills while Sabrina Bird added nine kills and eight blocks. Elisa Joris tallied 9 kills and a .500 attack percentage while Traci Skrzypek posted 8 kills, a .429 attack percentage, and 8 digs. Chara Fehsenfeld led the Lakers with 16 digs while Nicole Bayle added 35 assists, 8 digs, and 6 kills.
GVSU will travel to Big Rapids, Mich. on Tuesday (Oct. 8) to take on Ferris State at 7:00 pm. Both GVSU and FSU are undefeated in GLIAC action so far this season.
