Carly Miller recorded 14 kills in a 30-26, 30-15, 30-18 victory over Michigan Tech to set a new Grand Valley career kills record with 1,988 in her four years at GVSU on Saturday in the Fieldhouse Arena. Miller led a GVSU attack that tallied 54 kills with a .322 attack percentage, 11 aces, and 10 blocks. Carly breaks the mark previously held by Carrie Baker who played at GVSU from '91-'94. Miller entered the match needing 13 kills to set the mark and tallied 9 kills in the first two games. Carly then rolled off two kills in the first three points of game three and eventually registered the record breaker early in the third game. Miller has now recorded 1,989 kills in her career and needs only 11 more to become the 18th player in GVSU history to reach the 2,000 kill mark.
Miller was not the only Laker senior with solid numbers as Chara Fehsenfeld notched 9 kills, with a .692 attack percentage, and 12 digs. Traci Skrzypek also tallied 10 digs and seven kills with a .500 hitting mark.
