Grand Valley State swept Northern Michigan 30-20, 30-17, 30-17 in a GLIAC matchup on Friday night in the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. Senior All-American Carly Miller recorded 16 kills to lead the Lakers and run her career kill total to 1,975, only 13 shy of the GVSU record. The Lakers improve to 21-2 overall and 11-1 in GLIAC action.
Miller's 16 kills came on 39 attack attempts as she posted a .333 hitting percentage along with 8 digs and 6 blocks. Miller trails only Carrie Baker's 1,987 kills on the GVSU career list. Carly is also trying to become only the 18th player in NCAA DII history to record 2,000 kills in a career.
GVSU dominated the match as they hit .325 while holding NMU to a .027 attack percentage. The Lakers tallied 12 aces, and 12 blocks in the match. Sophomore Elisa Joris recorded nine kills with a .467 attack percentage, while Sabrina Bird tallied seven kills and six blocks. Chara Fehsenfeld and Katie Horvath tallied 11 kills apiece while Nicole Bayle registered 32 assists, 10 digs, and five kills.
Grand Valley will host Michigan Tech on Saturday (10/26) at 4:00 pm in the Fieldhouse.
