Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State opened up conference play with a 1-0 victory over Saginaw Valley State on Saturday at University Center. Elizabeth Aceto scored the only goal of the game with less than four minutes left in the first half and the Laker defense recorded their fifth shutout of the year to pull out the win. GVSU improves to 8-2 on the season.

The Lakers outshot the Cardinals 19 to 15 including an 11 to 4 advantage in shots on goal. It was the third goal of the season for Aceto who recorded the other two goals in a win over Indianapolis. Melissa Henson earned her fourth shutout of the season and improves to 7-2 on the year.

The Lakers will host Northern Michigan on Friday (Oct. 18) at 3:00 pm and Northwood on Sunday (Oct. 20) at 1:00 pm.
