RB Marty Carter Enters 2018 NFL Supplemental Draft

Grand Valley State senior RB Marty Carter announced today (June 29) that he will enter the 2018 National Football League supplemental draft and forgo his senior season. The 2018 NFL supplemental draft will be held July 11th. 

Carter finished his career as the Lakers' all-time leading rusher, toting the ball 513 times for 3,728 yards and 36 TDs in 36 career games. In addition, he caught 35 passes for 209 yards and one TD for an all-purpose yardage total of 3,980 yards. Carter rushed for a GVSU single-season record 1,908 yards and 20 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2016, earning consensus Division II All-America honors and finishing fifth in the Harlon Hill Award voting as the D2 Player of the Year. Marty was named the D2Football.com National Offensive Player of the Year following his sophomore campaign. 

"We would like to thank Marty for what he did for GVSU football and we wish him the very best as he moves on to the next chapter of his life and football career," said head coach Matt Mitchell.

The East Chicago, Indiana native missed two games as a junior in 2017, rushing for 931 yards and nine TDs. 

Carter looks to join former Lakers CB Brandon Carr (Baltimore Ravens), DL Matt Judon (Baltimore Ravens), WR Charles Johnson (New York Jets), LB David Talley (Green Bay Packers) and TE Nick Keizer (Baltimore Ravens) in the NFL, while OL Brandon Revenberg is starting for the Hamilton Tiger Cats in the CFL. 

Grand Valley State will open the 2018 football campaign Thursday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. versus 2017 Great Lakes Valley Conference champion Indianapolis. Season and single-game tickets are available at www.gvsulakers.com.
