ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Grand Valley State men and women's track & field teams wrapped up their final indoor meet on Friday before the GLIAC Championships that will take place next weekend at the University of Findlay. The Lakers put up 11 provisional marks in what proved to be a successful meet following last weekend's Big Meet. The GVSU Tune-Up was substantially smaller than the Big Meet, with around 500 athletes attending the Tune-Up compared to around 2,000 athletes last weekend.

On the women's side, the Lakers were led by a strong performance from Chant'e Roberts in the 400m as she was able to place first with a NCAA provisional time of 55.99. Kathryn Mills also provided a first place finish for the Laker women in the high jump with a height of 1.71m (5' 7.25"), which was good enough for a NCAA provisional mark. Dajsha Avery put up a first place finish in the shot put with a NCAA provisional mark of 14.91m (48' 11"), while Kyra Hull placed first in the weight throw with a provisional mark of 18.59m (61' 0"). Alexis Duncan was able to take first in the long jump with a NCAA provisional mark as well, with a distance of 5.71m (18' 9").

For the Laker men, the day was highlighted by Samora Nesbitt in the triple jump as the senior broke his own school record of 15.23m (49' 11.25") that he set last year with a jump of 15.45m (50' 8.25"), shattering his old record by nearly a full foot. The Laker men were also led by a first place finish by Gary Hickman in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.14 which is a NCAA provisional time. Jacob Battani also put up a first place finish in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.92m (16' 1.75"), which was good for a NCAA provisional mark. An additional trio of Laker pole vaulters met provisional marks, Jon Pung, Ryan Camp, and Evan Fortenberry achieved a mark of 4.66m (15' 3.5").

GVSU will travel to the GLIAC Championships at Findlay next weekend. The Laker men have won the title in seven consecutive years, while the women have won every GLIAC title since 2000. The GLIAC Championships are set to start at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 25th.
