The Grand Valley State women's golf team nearly matched its production from day one of the NCAA National Championships again on Thursday (May 19), as the Lakers tallied a team score of 304 (+16) to stay in eighth place in the overall standings. GVSU's two-day score of 606 (+30) at CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora, Colo. ties the Lakers with Augustana and Northeastern State at the halfway point of the four-day, 72-hole tournament.

Leading the way for Grand Valley State is senior Gabrielle Shipley, who is nearly leading the entire competition. After shooting an opening round 73 (+1), Shipley put together one of the best rounds of Thursday's play, as she recorded five birdies and fired a 2-under par 70. Only three players on Thursday shot better than Shipley's 70.  In total, Shipley has a 143 (-1) in the first two rounds.

The senior All-American birdied her first hole of the day - the par-4 10th hole - and totaled a par on the next eight holes to close out the back nine with a 1-under 35. Shipley started the front nine with a par and another birdie before also notching birdies on holes four, seven, and eight. In the opening 36 holes, Shipley has nine birdies, the most of any player in the competition.

Shipley is tied for second place at -1 along with Augustana's Marisa Toivonen, Rollins' Paige Lyle, and Central Oklahoma's Daniela Martinez. The foursome is chasing Hally Leadbetter from Rollins, who is 3-under par with a two-day score of 141; she shot a 69 (-3) on Thursday.

Freshman Alex Amos shot a 78 on Thursday after her opening round 73. The newcomer is tied for 29th with a two-day score of 151 (+7). Amos recorded 11 pars and birdied the 15th hole for her 6-over 78 in round two. She shot par on seven of the nine holes on the front nine for a solid 2-over 38 on the front.

Junior Alex Taylor followed her first round 79 (+7) with a 77 (+5) on Thursday. She is tied for 56th with a score of 156 (+12). Taylor had a pretty clean round overall, as she recorded 13 pars out of the 18 holes, including a par on her first seven holes of the round.

Taylor sits one shot ahead of classmate Julie Guckian, who is tied for 58th with a 157 (+13). Guckian notched an 80 (+8) on Thursday after an opening day 77 (+5). She birdied holes three and 17, while recording seven pars in round two.

One shot back of Guckian is teammate Samantha Moss. The sophomore is tied for 60th place with a 158 (+14) after shooting her second straight 79 (+7). Moss tallied pars on 12 of her 18 holes on Thursday.

Rollins, the top-ranked team in the field entering the week, sits in first place overall with a two-day score of 578 (+2), eight strokes ahead of Indianapolis (586, +10). Dallas Baptist (591, +15), Nova Southeastern (592, +16), and Saint Leo (599, +23).

The Lakers will tee of at 8:00 a.m. MDT (10:00 a.m ET) in Friday's third round, as Moss, Guckian, Taylor, Amos, and Shipley will go off in that order from 8:00 a.m. MDT to 8:40 a.m. MDT.
