ALLENDALE, Mich.-- After the second round of play at the 2016 GLIAC Women's Championship, the Grand Valley State women's golf team remains firmly rooted at the top of the standings, with a 27 stroke lead over second place Findlay. The Lakers finished the second round with a 295 team score, giving them 587 strokes overall. That beats the previous program record for low hole total through 36 holes played, breaking the mark of 588 set in the 2011-12 season at the Bulldog Invitational. 

Ashland is third in the team leaderboard, with 625, while Northwood (643) and Ferris State (655) round out the top five. 

Alex Amos and Samantha Moss ended the second round tied for first place on the individual leaderboard, with the latter moving up from a third place tie to begin the day. The pair both ended with a 143 (-1) two round score, with Moss sinking three birdies on her way to a two under 70, and Amos sinking one birdie on her way to a one over 73. 

Gabrielle Shipley is fifth in the overall standing with a 150 two round score, while teammate Alex Taylor ended the day in a tie for sixth place overall after shooting a 76 in round two and finishing with a 151 total score. 

Julie Guckian improved on both her placement in the individual standings, moving up to 12th overall, but also improved on her first day score of 79 with a 77 in the second round of the tournament. 

The tournament concludes tomorrow with the third and final round, set to begin via tee times starting at 9:00 a.m.
