ALLENDALE, Mich. – In their first home meet of the 2016 outdoor season, Grand Valley State had four of their throwers hit NCAA qualifying marks while one set a new school record in the 2016
Al Owens Classic.
Â
With only the hammer, javelin, and triple jumps going on today, there were a combined total of over 300 athletes competing on the men's and women's sides of competition at the GVSU Track & Field Stadium today.
Â
Kyra Hull was the lone Laker female to hit a provisional mark on the day as the junior made a throw of 56.65m (185' 10''), an improvement of her previous best of 54.51m from the WKU Hilltopper Relays and a mark that will place her higher on the NCAA outdoor qualifier list.
Â
The remaining qualifiers came from the men's side of action.
Darien Thornton hit an automatic mark in the hammer throw with a school record throw of 68.55m (224' 11''), breaking the record he set last season by .95 meters.
