Lipovsky Nabs Second GLIAC Pitcher of the Week Award

Freshman righty owned a 0.00 ERA and gave up just seven hits in 20.0 innings

For the second time this season, Grand Valley State pitcher Allison Lipovsky was honored as the GLIAC Pitcher of the Week, released on Monday morning (Apr. 18) by the league office. The freshman righthander allowed just seven hits in 20.0 innings in the circle last week, winning two of her three appearances and sporting a 0.00 earned run average.

GVSU went 6-2 last week in four conference doubleheaders, with Lipovsky making three starts in the circle and tossing a pair of complete game shutouts. For the week, she gave up just two runs (none earned) on seven hits. Lipovsky walked seven batters, recorded 18 strikeouts, and opponents hit just .103 off her during the week. In those 20 innings, she allowed just five singles and two doubles.

Her terrific week started on Tuesday (Apr. 13), when Lipovsky tossed a complete game one-hitter in a 2-0 victory at Saginaw Valley State. In seven innings, she gave up one hit, one walk, and seven strikeouts. The lone hit was a two-out double in the third inning, but Lipovsky responded by retiring the next 13 batters and posting 1-2-3 innings in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh frames.

On Wednesday (Apr. 14) back in Allendale, Lipovsky gave up just three hits and her only two runs of the week (both were unearned) in six innings against Findlay. GVSU fell to the Oilers 2-1 and Lipovsky was saddled with the loss despite another strong effort. It was the first loss of her collegiate career.

She bounced back on Saturday (Apr. 16) at Ohio Dominican to twirl a complete game three-hitter in a 5-0 win over Ohio Dominican. She gave up three hits and walked two batters, but fanned eight Panthers in a 106-pitch gem. It was Lipovsky's third complete game shutout of the season.

For the year, the rookie is 9-1 with a 0.81 earned run average and has allowed just 46 hits in 77.2 innings. She has given up just nine earned runs this season, while totaling 74 strikeouts to just 29 walks. Opponents are managing to hit just .166 off of Lipovsky, which is fifth-best in the GLIAC. Her earned run average is third-lowest in the league, her three shutouts are fourth-most, and she ranks eighth in both strikeouts and strikeouts per seven innings (6.67).

It was the second time Lipovsky has won the league's top pitcher award this season, also doing so on Mar. 14 after a strong week on the team's Spring Break trip.

GVSU (28-8 overall, 13-5 GLIAC) is at home four times this week, starting with a twinbill against Lake Superior State on Tuesday (Apr. 19) at 3:00 p.m.
