Foley wins Doris Brown Heritage Award, Baltes wins Duane Vandenbusche Award

NEW ORLEANS -- The US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its postseason awards for the 2016 season on Tuesday.

Grand Valley State senior Kendra Foley was named the Doris Brown Heritage Award winner for the 2016 season. The award is given to the top women's runner in NCAA Division II. The Noblesville, Ind. native won the 2016 individual national championship for the second time in her career, the first being in 2014, defeating 2015 champion Alexis Zeis of U-Mary by 25 seconds. Foley became the first woman in Division II to win national titles in non-consecutive years.

GVSU head coach Jerry Baltes was honored with the 2016 Duane Vandenbusche Award, which is given to the top women's coach in Division II. In the Lakers' team national championship, the women placed four runners inside the top-40 at the Division II National Championships, securing four All-America honors in the 116-139 victory over Adams State. The national title was the Lakers' fifth in the past seven seasons, and followed up on an undefeated regular season against DII squads. GVSU won at the Midwest Region and GLIAC championships, and scored a win at the Lewis Conference Crossover.

Other award winners from around Division II were:

• Vincent Kiprop, Missouri Southern - Doug Watts Award (Men's Athlete of the Year)
• Damon Martin, Adams State - Joe Vigil Award (Men's Coach of the Year)
