BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Valley State cross country teams travelled to Ferris State to compete in the GLIAC Championships on Saturday and were able to claim victories in both the men and women's races for the 15
th straight year. The women claimed their 16
th consecutive championship, while the men took home their 15
th consecutive championship.
The Laker women placed all seven scoring runners inside the top 15 and all 10 competitors came in 34
th place or higher in a field of 123 runners.
Kendra Foley continued her strong senior season with a first place finish, posting a time of 21:08.9. Foley defeated Hillsdale's Hannah McIntyre by nearly 37 seconds.
Kelly Haubert was the next GVSU runner to cross the finish line in fifth place with a time of 21:56.4.
Stacey Metzger took seventh place with a time of 22:01.4. The next Laker to finish was
Alison Work in 10
th place with a time of 22:20.1.
Amy Creutz and
Rachel Bendewald placed 12
th and 13
th with times of 22:24.6 and 22:25.9, respectively.
Jessica Gockley rounded out the scoring for GVSU with a 15
th place finish and a time of 22:30.2. Also running for GVSU was
Kaylie Rhynard (18
th; 22:41.7),
Allie Ludge (22
nd; 22:51.1), and
Brianna King (34
th; 23:30.7).
The GVSU men took three of the top five places and recorded five of the top 10 places in their 8k race.
Zach Panning placed second overall with a time of 24:30.3 behind James Ngandu of Tiffin, who crossed the finish line at 24:14.5.
Chris May took home the third place finish at a time of 24:59.4, while
Nate Orndorf followed shortly after in fourth place with a time of 25:03.3.
Trevor Sharnas and
Bryce Bradley would round out the top 10 with ninth and 10
th places finishes at 25:20.4 and 25:20.5.
Josh Steible came across in 11
th place at a time of 25:25.4.
Kevin Black rounded out the scoring for GVSU in 14
th place with a time of 25:32.9. Also running for the Lakers were
Mason VanDyke (21
st; 25:48.0),
Ethan Davenport (25
th; 25:57.9), and
Wuoi Mach (38
th; 26:31.3).
Grand Valley State's next competition will be at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championships in Evansville, Ind. on November 5
th.
