Laker Lacrosse Ranks 17th, 15th in Coaches' and Media Polls

GRAND LAKES, Colo. – After winning their last nine games, including a big 19-8 upset over a ranked Regis squad on April 13, Grand Valley State sees themselves rising in the latest IWLCA coaches' and Nike/Lacrosse Magazine media polls.

Grand Valley State, 12-4 and 6-0 in the GLIAC, receives 75 points to rank 17th in the country in the Week 9 poll, the highest ranking ever in Laker lacrosse history. It also marks the first time Grand Valley State has appeared in the Top 20 of the coaches poll since ranking 20th in the first regular season poll released on February 23rd. The Lakers rank one point ahead of 18th-ranked Dowling (11-4) and 27 points behind Regis (10-4) at No. 16.

Aside from defending National Champion top-ranked Adelphi (14-0) receiving two more first-place votes, the top five of the coaches' poll remains unchanged. Aside from Grand Valley State, Seton Hill made the biggest move upward in this week's poll. The Griffins (11-4) jumped three spots from No. 17 to No. 14 after an 11-10 upset win over Rollins, ranked No. 10 at the time. Regis' loss to the Lakers saw them tumble four spots from No. 12 to No. 16.

Grand Valley State also jumped up in the media poll, moving up three spots from No. 18 to No. 15 after their upset win over Regis. The Lacrosse Magazine staff called the Lakers' win over the Rangers their signature win of the year, and the facts are hard to dispute. The win over Regis was the second and biggest win over a ranked opponent of the program's short history.

The Lakers conclude the regular season on the road against Lake Erie on Friday (Apr. 24) at 6 p.m. Grand Valley State will then play the waiting game for who they will face in the GLIAC Tournament. As regular season champions and the top seed, the Lakers will play the winner of the match-up between the fourth and fifth-seeded teams.
