Lakers Drop 34-20 Decision To Saginaw Valley State

Allendale, Mich. - #5 Saginaw Valley State used six Grand Valley State turnovers to aid its cause in a 34-20 victory over #1 Grand Valley State Saturday night. SVSU improves to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in GLIAC action, while GVSU falls to 6-1 and 5-1.

GVSU scored first on a David Hendrix 28-yard field goal at 4:06 of the first quarter, however, SVSU answered with 26-yard field goal by Eric Houle. QB Cullen Finnerty put the Lakers on top 9-3, but the PAT was no good and GVSU led 9-3. The Lakers turned the ball over on its own 13 with less than a minute left in the first half and Mark Radlinski hit Glenn Martinez on the first play and added the PAT for a 10-9 halftime lead.

The Cardinals broke the game open in the third quarter with 17 points. T.J. Alston returned an interception 40 yards for a TD and Houle hit a 47-yard field goal. Ruvell Martin caught a 2-yard TD pass from Radlinski following another SVSU interception. Hendrix put GVSU on the board early in the fourth quarter with a 24-yard field goal, but Radlinski hit Mark LaFreniere with a short pass that turned into a 69-yard TD to put the Cardinals up 34-12. Jeff Dock hit Mario Locricchio with a 6-yard TD pass to close out the scoring.

QB Cullen Finnerty rushed for 75 yards on 11 carries and completed 12-of-21 passes for 96 yards before leaving the game early in the third quarter with an injury. Jeff Dock completed 13-of-31 passes for 166 yards and a TD. Locricchio caught a career-high 10 passes for 139 yards and a TD. Mark Radlinski completed 26-of-37 passes for 243 yards and three TDs. Glenn Martinez, who wasn't even listed on the two-deep and wasn't expected to play after coming back from a broken hand, led the receiving corps with seven catches for 48 yards. LaFreniere caught four passes for 88 yards.
