Laker BreakerÂ
The return of Grand Valley State wrestling is on the horizon as the grapplers prepare for the first competition on the mat in over 30 years. GVSU will host Cornerstone on Wednesday, November 1 at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. The doors will open at 6 p.m., with the first match set for 7 p.m. In addition, wrestling fans will have an opportunity to meet wrestling legends Dan Gable, Lee Kemp and Myles Amine.Â
First-year head coach
Joey Simcoe is ready to put a full year of planning and preparation for the opening competition to into motion.
"We have put together an outstanding roster of student-athletes that have invested themselves in Grand Valley State and our wrestling program," said Simcoe. "I really like our combination of transfers that will make an immediate impact and freshman that will have to step in and be ready to compete from the opening whistle. It will be an exciting day for Grand Valley State and all that played a role in bringing GVSU wrestling back to the mat," added Simcoe.
The day will begin with an event from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. that wrestling fans do not want to miss. The Laker Breaker Luncheon will take place at the Main Street Pub in Allendale and feature guest speakers Dan Gable, Lee Kemp and Myles Amine. Tickets for this event are limited to the first 150 that sign up and those guests will also get VIP seating at the GVSU - Cornerstone dual meet.Â
The doors at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena will open at 6 p.m. and fans will have an opportunity to meet and get autographs from Gable, Kemp and Amine.Â
