Candace Babyak (Trenton, Mich.) concluded her career as one of the most prolific softball pitchers in Laker history. Babyak, who was a four-year letterwinner for the Lakers on the mound, notched an 82-29 career record in 131 outings. She logged 750.1 innings, yielding 134 earned runs for a career ERA of 1.25. In addition, Babyak recorded 429 strikeouts. Candace ranks second in career complete games (92), innings pitched (750.1), and saves (12), third in all-time wins (82) and shutouts (24), and fourth in strikeouts (429). When Babyak concluded her career, she ranked atop all of those categories. Babyak also held single-season records for wins (26), decisions (35), saves (6) and appearances (41). A three-time All-GLIAC honoree, Babyak earned First-Team All-GLIAC and all-region plaudits in 1999. Candace was also Grand Valley State’s candidate for NCAA Woman of the Year. GVSU was 58-8-1 during Babyak’s senior year en route to an NCAA Tournament appearance.
