Allendale, Mich. - Grand Valley State head men's basketball coach Ric Wesley announced that Jerret Smith will transfer to Grand Valley State and compete for the Lakers beginning with the 2008-09 season. Smith most recently spent three years at the University of Michigan.
"We are excited to have Jerret Smith become a part of our basketball program at Grand Valley State," said Wesley. "Jerret is a nice addition to our basketball team and he fills a need that we had for a point guard with experience," added Wesley.
For his career, Smith played in 65 career games with 13 starts at Michigan. He averaged 4.2 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists during his three seasons. Smith played in 27 games as a freshman during the 2005-06 campaign and 33 games as a sophomore. He averaged 5.7 points, 3.4 assists and 2.7 rebounds during his sophomore season. In addition, Smith played for the Big Ten conference Foreign Touring team where he averaged 6.8 points and 3.3 assists.
